Fourth Period - BQ6: Reflection

On your rationale handout, you made a prediction. Your assignment is to answer one of the following: How has the novel deviated from your prediction? Or, how has your novel followed your prediction?
Then, list the two McKee quotes you will be using for your poster presentation.

Format

First and Last Name

Original prediction

How your prediction changed or stayed (relatively) the same – in detail!

“Quote #1”
“Quote #2”

Note:
  • You do NOT have to comment on a peer’s post this time! (:
  • If you ended up changing your book in the beginning of the project, you will not be writing about your prediction. Instead, you will write what surprised you. How did your ideas of the characters, plot, and other elements change as the story progressed? You still have to include two McKee quotes in your post.
Due: Wednesday February 13 by midnight.

    Anabolic steroid uses
My prediction was actually right. Jomo(main character) was a regular highschool football player. He was always against using performance enhancers. However, when he realized that he needed to gain a lot of muscle weight in very short amount of time, his temptation led him to using steroid. Later in the book, Jomo is addicted to them and ends up losing many things like his girlfriend. But at the very end of the book, Jomo is back to football again.

True character is revealed in the choices a human being makes under pressure-the greater the pressure, the deeper the revelation, the truer the choice to the character's essential nature.

In the beginning, I predicted that someone would die by a ghost.

My prediction was very close to what happened, but not accurately. The story's plot goes from the past to the future, back and forth, with the main character having the talent of going back to the past. It turns out(a long time ago) a boy had accidently fallen off a cliff while having a fight with his old friend. The boy's spirit (or the ghost) floats around his old house, finding out the truth of what actually happened. I would have thought the ghost's temper would get the better of him and murder someone the same way he died, but nobody died but him. He just wanted answers and the scary hints he gave out was the only way to contact the protagonist.

I predicted that something very sinister was going to happen in my bok.

My predicition was relatively true. In the previous books, my 4 main characters have been "battling" an anonymous texter going by the name of "A." For years they have been trying to figure out who it was. In Ruthless, they seem to think that they have finally figured out who A was, but they were wrong. Many dangerous things have happened to them because of this. The accused attacked Spencer one night and both were hurt. Kelsey, the one who was accused of being A, ended up at a mental hospital. Another incident was when all four of them were sent a picture of a dead body from "A."

"She grabbed Spencer's elbow hard. Spencer wrenched away, desperate to get free, but Kelsey let out a frustrated noise and tackled Spencer against the brick wall."

"You hurt both of us. Now I'm going to hurt you. -A. Attached was a photograph of a blond girl in a goldenrod-colored sundress lying on her stomach on a beach at night. Her head was turned to the side, and there was a huge gash at her temple. Blood trickled down her chin and onto the sand. The waves crashed ominously near her head, ready to wash her away."

My original prediction was that someone would learn the truth aboutsomething and their life would change.

My prediction was not very close. In the book, Luke, Hayden, and Russell went to the top of a cliff for a initation ceramony for the school fenicng team. After an argument on the cliff, Hayden pushed Russell who fell to his death. The rest of the book was about Luke deciding on whether to testify against or for Hayden, his best friend.

I predicted that Jack(the protagonist) would make the right decision and not take any money from criminals

My prediction was correct, but it left out big details. Jack was offered money to purposely lose one of his horse races, but he refused to take it. Even though the money would've helped his family out a lot back home, Jack refused to do it because he knew the criminal had bad intentions. After several beatdowns and the threat of someone close to him getting hurt, he finally agreed to throw the race. Right before the race, however, Jack saw that his girlfiend was working together with the criminal to try and win money in the betting pools. He then knew that he had to race to win because his girlfriend was in fact his enemy. He won the race, but his horse died on the spot because Jack's father had decided to go ahead and sabotage Jack's horse. He did this because he thought that they needed the $200, but they really didn't. Jack then hated his father for what he did.

I predicted that the students of a school will attempt to run away to the forest.

My prediction was close, because they did escape at the end. Students of Maxwell Academy decided to have a rebellion against the school authority, and the whole school charges out. However, they were stopped by the androids, and many of them either died or got hurt. Out of this disaster, Benson and Becky are able to escape. Even though they did attempt to escape from the school, only two of them made it out.

I thought the remains of earth would be found. I though the characters would be more futuristic and different than modern type characters.

It turns out the human race left Earth and moved to a planet called Harmony;they did that because they felt they were harming the planet. The main idea is that humans earn the right to go back to planet earth and live there; It shows how humans are trying to get back to earth. The characters in the book were basically modern day character in a certain extent.

I predicted that Perks was about a boy who is an outcast at school. I also thought that the book would follow his journey of learning who he really is.

My prediction was correct. When Charlie entered high school he didn't have any friends. Throughout the course of the book, he becomes close friends with Sam and Patrick. They help expose Charlie to things he never knew of. As they put him in these situations, he learned who he really was. At a party a friend of Patrick called Charlie a "wallflower." This was the starting point of self-discovery for Charlie.

My original prediction was that there was going to be killing and missing people.

My prediction was right. It was a lot of killing and missing people on every page of the book. The main character even killed someone when he became a soldiers. Kids would go missing if they did something wrong or even looked like they were going to do something wrong.

My prediction was that the story would involve woods and there would be an escape to the forest.

The first part of my prediction was correct while the second was not. Wolves are an important aspect of Shiver. Shiver is about people who turn into wolves when winter comes, but their time as humans get shorter and shorter each year. On the other hand, there was no escape to the forest. Though they did occasionally go into the forest, the characters did not run away as I thought they would.

My prediction was that the main character was different and she was going to have to face the world.

My prediction turned out to be pretty similar to the book; however the main character was not a girl, it was a guy named Matthew. In my story Matthew lived in an underground world where everyone was different. However, when that world was destroyed Matthew and a few friends were forced to go to the world above where they were considered different. My prediction was true because the main character was different and he did have to face the world. The world he had to face was not only the human world, but a world full of different people too.

My prediction was that they would find gold in the mines.

My prediction was partially correct, but it goes much deeper than that. They found something called osblindium in their mines, and a dealer is trying to take it from them. Arley don’t know what’s in her mine at first, but refuses to let them take it. She eventually drove them out of town, by pretending she was a cured Indian sprit.

I predicted that a Gabbie would get kidnapped

My prediction was incorrect in that a girl would got kidnapped, but it was not Gabbie who got kidnapped it was Kayla. The kidnapper was trying to abduct Gabbie but he got Kayla instead because Gabbie was replaced by Kayla that night at Joe's pizza delivery.

My prediction was that the girl on front cover of the book had a deep hidden story behind her scar.

In the story, the character struggles to fit in because of the accidentally scar on her face. She was considered a "FREAK" and an ugly outsider towards the eyes of the Enclave.Near the ending of the book,it was revealed that the scar was actually intentional made by her parents because they did not want to lose their daughter to the Enclave.

I predicted that the character, John ("Number Four") would die.

My prediction was completely inaccurate. It turns out that John actually survived the alien attack, and was able to kill a lot of the aliens off. John also was able to protect his friends and family while doing it. Therefore, in the end he was very much a live which is the opposite of my prediction.

My prediction was that Benson, the main character of my book, would escape from the Academy's experiment and hide in the forest.

My prediction came out to be mostly incorrect. In my story, Benson and other students are kept "captive" by Maxfield Academy. They are there to be in an experiment, which tests robots and how they are similar to humans. In the end, Benson and many other characters stormed the Maxfield Academy's main building and rebelled against the robots. The robots were defeated and the students proclaimed freedom from Maxfield. Benson and the other students started a revolution in the headquarters to be free from the experiment, rather than "escaping" from it by hiding in the forest.

I predicted that the story would focus about the deaf.

My prediction is somewhat accurate, but the book focuses about deafness at the beginning. The main message this book was trying to get across was the topic of animal cruelty and experimentation.

I predicted that somebody in my book was going to get seriously injured or killed, and they would end up receiving the Purple Heart.

My prediction was correct. In the beginning of my book Matt was already in the hospital because of an RPG firing. Before the first chapter ended, he had already received the Purple Heart as an award for being injured in a battle. Although, I did not expect someone to be injured and killed. At the end of the book, Charlene died from a bomb exploding in the middle of a convenient store. Wolf ended up dying in the line of fire. Therefore, my prediction came true in both ways, but Wolf and Charlene did not end up getting the Purple Heart because they died before they could receive it.

My prediction was that Evie, the main character, would discover a secret she wasn't supposed to and it would change her life.

My prediction had came out to be incorrect. Instead of Evie discovering a secret, she was the one who had one. Her secret had been that she had "powers." Although Evie's secret did change her life, it had changed in a different way than I had imagined. She had met others with similar secrets to hers. This had an impact on her life and the others as well. Evie and the group of strangers got together to use their "powers" to catch the murderer in the town.
